Description
There are a few different options and things to consider with the
assortment of Upright Painting Holders (UPHs) we offer.
The most popular, by far, is the 18″ Variable Mount UPH.
Seen in action below:
This allows you to paint up to 18″ in the smaller dimension of a painting.
If say, in the above photo, you were inclined to do a vertical (12×24),
we’d simply rotate the entire contraption at the tripod ball/socket head
(providing we clamp the painting in there tightly, seen below).
Using longer Crossbars (16″- 20″), I regularly paint 18×36
painting panels on-location, and most times, in single session.
The 18″ UPH is roughly the same length as most modern tripods,
so, at the end, by using the quick release plate to connect/disconnect,
taking it apart and stowing in the pack are a snap.
There’s good reason the 18″ UPH is the most popular.
The 24″ Off Center Mount UPH is a great alternative if
24″ will often be the smaller side length of your work (ie. 24×36).
The tripod head connection to the Upright is roughly centered behind
the painting, but instead of having the variability of placing the connection
anywhere, it is set in place. This is an added level of security for larger works.
It does look like gross over-kill if working on something smaller.
And below, a 24″ Off Center Mount UPH with a 12×12 panel.
CROSSBARS
Crossbars are a bit more straight forward.
For the painting size you most often paint,
you’ll want your Crossbars to be about 2/3 the length of that holding side length.
So if you paint a lot of 12x16s, the 12″ Crossbars will be ideal.
Below is a cross-section diagram to illustrate just how they work.
For stretched canvases, the Crossbars put a
vice-grip on ANY substrate. The diagram below
illustrates the mechanism of compression.
How wide are the supports you wish to paint?”
The Crossbar Lengths available:
8″ Crossbars (firmly hold up to 16″ paintings)
12″ Crossbars (firmly hold up to 24″ paintings)
16″ Crossbars (firmly hold up to 30″ paintings)
20″Crossbars (firmly hold up to 36″ paintings)
